The arrival of spring, a Poem

My Artwork

The Arrival of Spring (cathe waller) by Rg Gregorythe

on the last day of winter i went to bed
harsh winds rainstorms beating my head
houses trees with a sucked-out look
new year flaked from the old one's hook

then overnight such a change of heart
spring come home with her confectionery cart
hundreds-and-thousands strewn in the breeze
houses sampling them as well as the trees

people savouring them in punts on the river
earth knee-deep in them praising the giver
so (blankets off) i'm out in the streets
glutton for spring and her burst bag of sweets

The Gift

Christmas season is among us -
and shoppers are on the fly,
running around like crazy,
looking for gifts to buy.

Looking for that perfect gift -
it seems so hard to find,
to give to that special someone,
who lingers in your mind.

So out the door and to the store -
and to the Mall again,
got to find that perfect gift,
to give to that dear one.

Finally tired and all worn out -
and about to fall apart.
But if you look - it's always been,
right there within your heart!

A gift that money just can't buy -
for it comes from God above,
a gift to cherish for a lifetime,
it's called the "Gift" of love!

So if you can't find what you look for -
it won't be on your list.
You'll have to search from deep within,
to give someone the "Gift!"

Diet Another Day

A Dieter's Despair
© Don Hewitt
Oh my soul, be thou quiet
This is not 'another diet'
Just a program of exchange
Though some things do seem strange

Raw vegetables and 'brock-o-lee'
Does not sound too good to me
Lots of tofu and bean sprouts
While my empty stomach shouts

The meaning here is quite plain;
This program is designed for pain
Someone with anorexia planned
A program that tastes like sand

My hands are sweating, my soul is dreading
I must keep this thing from spreading
My only hope, the paper shredder
It finally made this diet better

Some people are lucky to be able to eat what they want without getting fat, but of course these are usually very active people who spend most of their time burning calories of what they eat.  But to some others whose daily activity is mainly centered on getting up and sitting down, this is where dieting becomes a must.  And yet, to this group the "must do" becomes "relish today, diet tomorrow" combined with "I am going to exercise everyday (except today)".

The best strategy when you encounter these judgments is to remind yourself: I don't have to like it nor ask if I "feel like it today"; I just have to do it.  That time is now, not tomorrow, the day after or the day after that. And this goes for me!

All That Really Matters

All That Really Matters

Life is too short for grievances,
For quarrels and for tears,
What's the use of wasting
Precious days and precious tears.

If there's something to forgive,
Forgive without delay
Maybe you too, were part to blame,
So make it up today.

Be generous, forget the past
And take the broader view,
Cast away all bitterness and
Let the sunshine through.

If it's within your power
A broken heart to mend,

Remember
Love is all that really
matters in the end.

If One Day

If one day you feel like crying, call me.
I don't promise I can make you laugh,
but I can cry with you.

If one day you want to run away,
don't be afraid to call me.
I don't promise to ask you to stop ...
But I can run with you.

If one day you don't want to listen to anyone.
Call me.
I promise to be there for you.
And I promise to be very quiet.

But if one day you call...
And there is no answer...
Come fast to see me.
Perhaps I need you.
...Perhaps I am not around anymore...

Friends and family, everyone needs somebody one time or the other.  Today for you, tomorrow for me.  Life is a merry-go-round, to love and to share.

Lost Time

Lost Time by Rabindranath Tagore

On many an idle day have I grieved over lost time.
But it is never lost, my lord.
Thou hast taken every moment of my life in thine own hands.
Hidden in the heart of things thou art nourishing seeds into sprouts, buds into blossoms, and ripening flowers into fruitfulness.

I was tired and sleeping on my idle bed
and imagined all work had ceased.
In the morning I woke up
and found my garden full with wonders of flowers.

It goes to say, that even if we may not be moving, the world does not stand still and in a blink of an eye our condition may change.

On Immortality

Beauty, much desired to ever last,
Like beauty and fragrances of Eden,
Endlessly odorous, feeding the eyes,
Soul contented, wholesome feeling arises,
Greatness defies barriers of seasonal changes.

The question of immortality,
If there is, one would never migrate,
From realities of life to spirituality,
Suppleness in command, gray shoved aside,
Is forever young a possibility?

Reminiscing the youth, there was once,
Strong desires to ward off seasoned looks,
Craziness to dance till the last song,
In every beat of the heart and in every vein,
With ease blood does flow, free from dirt of life.

Partially in dreamland,

The fountain of youth or the elixir of life, so priceless and sought after by many.  But is it really worth the chase?  When we can live forever, and have no fear of death, life will no longer have its mystery.

Don't Quit

When you think you have done your best,  yet you are not obtaining the results that you have predicted,  do not be discouraged.  Pray,  because God can transform any situation and hope,  because knowledge is knowing that in the worst of times we can triumph over hardships and sorrows.

Happy The Man

Happy The Man by John Dryden

Happy the man, and happy he alone,
He who can call today his own:
He who, secure within, can say,
Tomorrow do thy worst, for I have lived today
Be fair or foul or rain or shine
The joys I have possessed in spite of fate are mine
Not Heaven itself upon the past has power,
But what has been, has been, and I have had my hour.

Live well our  yesterday  so we can be proud of our tomorrow.

Peace

In the present times, with lots of turmoil everywhere, I think it is  necessary to find out how we can contribute to spread if not maintain peace around us, starting with our own self.   Because one who is at peace with himself can never be an instigator of any unpleasant event.  And even if we  may be only  one,  we can still make a difference and why wait for tomorrow if we can  do something today.  Here is for a better world of peace and harmony.

Dreams, Life, Musing, Poem

Idyllic

               Sometimes ,
When I am on the verge of breaking down,
My mind would drift far to a place so idyllic,
Would I be the lucky one to roam its beauty,
Would I have a moment to inhale its pure air,
And swim along the silver and golden fishes
in its crystal clear water, heaven knows how,
Idyllic it is that I'd never know the differences
of day and night, for both have equal beauty.
The stars are diamonds that brighten up the night,
The sun is ever giving and ensuring life to go on,
This is where I yearn to be, in an idyllic place,
Where flowers smile everyday and happiness
is everywhere, everything a stunning beauty.
